LAS VEGAS–History comes alive at the Old Mormon Fort State Historic Park when the gates open for the annual Pioneer Christmas Celebration on December 14 and 15 from 7:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m.
Take a step back in time and discover the pioneer era with live music, Christmas carols, aromas of authentic Dutch oven cooking and a Christmas story as pioneer children hang their stockings. An 1860s Christmas will be re-created as close to the time period as one can imagine, with Civil War soldiers welcoming a wagon train into the Old Fort. This nostalgic experience for adults and children is free to the public.
December 1
Begin the holiday season with live music from various performers on December 1 from 6:30 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. Baked goods, warm drinks and music will usher in the holiday season. Entrance fees are applicable.
December 7
Enjoy our series “Lunch with History†at the Old Mormon Fort State Park, held on the first Friday of every month at 12:00 p.m. through 1:00 p.m. On December 7, The Mormon Road, Mormon Fort, Mount Potosi and Paiutes will be the historical topic featuring Liz Warren as the guest speaker. Bring your lunch and enjoy learning a variety of historical topics from local experts, historians and journalists. Â
December 8
On Saturday, December 8, our monthly “Hands on History†children’s program includes Christmas stories told as a violinist sets the mood and families make their own pioneer Christmas ornaments from nature to take home. A Christmas tree will be unveiled with small surprises for the children. The children’s program will be from 10:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. Entrance fees are applicable.
Entrance fees to the park include all of the featured program activities and are $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children, ages 6 to 12. Children under 6 are free. There are no additional fees for scheduled programs.
Normal park hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The park will be open on Sundays beginning on November 25, 2007. It is located at 500 E. Washington Ave.
