WASHOE VALLEY, Nev.– Each year people become lost, stranded or worse in the wilderness. This free program, offered by Nevada State Parks, is an introduction to GPS (Global Positioning Systems). Participants will learn what GPS is, how it works and how it can be used to navigate in the outdoors.
Participants will search for a hidden geocache as part of the program.
A limited number of handheld GPS units will be available to use from park staff, so participants are encouraged to bring their own.
Reserve a space by calling 775-687-4319. Everyone will meet at Washoe Lake State Park’s main group area July 11 at 9 a.m. Washoe Lake State Park is located at 4855 Eastlake Boulevard (http://parks.nv.gov/parkmap.htm).
