Conservation plants for sale at state nursery
Oct 14th, 2009 | By Bob Conrad | Category: Conservation, ForestryLAS VEGAS — The Nevada Division of Forestry State Tree Nursery in Las Vegas is open to the public year-round and has extended its fall hours to include selected Saturdays in October and November. The nursery has more than 45 species of locally grown native and adapted trees, shrubs and forbs for land owners in Southern Nevada.
Most species are available in 1-gallon containers for $3.00, and in 5-gallon containers for $8.25, however 17 species of trees and shrubs are available in 15-gallon containers for $25.00. The nursery urges customers to return empty growing containers for recycling. Cash or checks only, please.
The plants are meant to be purchased for conservation uses such as, but not limited to, windbreaks, soil erosion control, water conservation, reforestation and for improving wildlife habitats. For the nursery policy and plant list, please visit www.forestry.nv.gov.
The nursery is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. New fall hours include the following Saturdays: October 17, and 24, and November 7 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The nursery is located at 9600 Tule Springs Dr. Enter the nursery through Floyd Lamb Park.
