$1 million available to assist Nevada drinking water systems

CARSON CITY, NV – The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s (NDEP) Bureau of Administrative Services, Office of Financial Assistance has approximately $1 million dollars in federal US Environmental Protection Agency funding to provide technical assistance to Nevada drinking water systems.  Drinking water systems across the Nation face increasing challenges in maintaining safe, reliable delivery of water while addressing aging infrastructure, staff turnover, and an ever changing climate.

Contracted assistance will include outreach to Nevada drinking water systems, providing a resource for technical, managerial, and financial training and guidance. All proposals must follow the guidelines for application outlined in the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NFO), which is available for download at https://ndep.nv.gov/posts/notice-of-funding-opportunity-office-of-financial-assistance.  Any publically or privately owned company with the capacity to provide the required technical assistance outlined in the NFO is eligible to apply.

“Drinking water system managers, operators, and governing boards sometimes need outside resources to contact when they need guidance,” said Jason B. Cooper, manager of NDEP’s Office of Financial Assistance. “NDEP is committed to fund qualified vendors who will assist local water systems as they continue to deliver safe drinking water.”

“This funding provides critical assistance to improve Nevada’s drinking water systems,” said EPA Pacific Southwest Administrator Mike Stoker. “Providing technical assistance helps drinking water systems serve clean, safe drinking water and prevents costly disruptions in the service they provide to customers.”

Examples of previous assistance provided to water systems include:

  • Water quality testing and troubleshooting assistance
  • Development and implementation of procedures to protect water quality, such as cross-connection control plans
  • Increasing managerial capabilities and financial strength
  • Training programs aimed at increasing knowledge and expertise of certified operators

Proposals will be accepted through 4:00 p.m. March 21, 2019. Selected proposals will be awarded federal funds available under the Drinking Water Capitalization Grant (Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance #66.468), and will be administered by NDEP’s Office of Financial Assistance. Applicants unsure of eligibility are invited to contact NDEP for further information.
