NDEP to convene “Clean Cars Nevada” kick-off webinar on December 8, 2020

“Clean Cars Nevada” initiative aims to provide Nevadans with more choices for less-polluting cars and trucks

Today, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) announced plans to convene its first webinar on Clean Cars Nevada, an initiative to evaluate the adoption of new regulations that would provide Nevadans with more choices for low and zero emission passenger cars and trucks offered at Nevada-wide dealerships, beginning in 2024. The Clean Cars Nevada: Introduction to the proposed program and the regulatory adoption process webinar will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at 1:30pm. Information on how to attend the webinar will be posted online at ndep.nv.gov/air/clean-cars-nevada. 

During the webinar, NDEP will share an overview of the Clean Cars Nevada initiative, information on program implementation, and the steps involved in moving the proposed regulation forward. NDEP will also outline upcoming opportunities for Nevada residents and stakeholders to provide public comment and share their input to help shape the proposed Clean Cars Nevada regulation.

Importantly, the kick-off webinar is the first in a series of public and stakeholder engagement opportunities. Through 2021, NDEP will continue to engage with stakeholders and convene public workshops to gather comprehensive input and feedback across all impacted sectors of our economy and throughout every community in Nevada. This stakeholder input will inform the design of the proposed Clean Cars Nevada regulation in advance of its consideration by the State Environmental Commission and State Legislative Commission.

Background: Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak announced the Clean Cars Nevada initiative in June 2020. In addition to increasing consumer options, Clean Cars Nevada will help advance the State’s climate change and sustainability goals, reduce harmful air pollution from cars and trucks on Nevada roads, and strengthen the economy. While Clean Cars Nevada will help reduce pollution through providing cleaner, more efficient transportation options, the proposed new regulations will not require anyone to give up their current vehicle or choose one that does not work for their lifestyle or business needs. Now, more than ever, it is critical for Nevada to continue accelerating efforts to address climate change, including capturing the many benefits of sustainable transportation options for Nevadans.
