NDF to Conduct Prescribed Fire in the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area

Carson City, NV - As part of the Nevada Division of Forestry’s (NDF) continuing efforts to create healthy, fire-resilient landscapes, work crews will be conducting a prescribed fire project for the Nevada Department of Wildlife at the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area on March 9 – March 11, 2021. This important undertaking consists of removing overgrown vegetation in three ponds to create open water habitat for birds and other local wildlife, and enhancing soil health by recycling nutrients and reducing flammable materials to help lower the risk of wildfire.

Residents and visitors are asked to avoid areas where prescribed burns are being conducted. Smoke may be visible, but these fires are all carefully monitored and local fire departments are aware of prescribed fire activity.
