NODR Funding Revitalizes Carvers, Nevada Arena in Nye County
In 2023, the Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation (NDOR) received $600,000 in grant funding authority for recreational infrastructure planning, improvements, and rehabilitation projects. These funds were awarded to twelve entities across the Silver State, including Nye County, which used the funding to expand and enhance the Carvers Arena and Recreation Area.
Improvements at the site include the addition of six sporting clay stations, a small clubhouse with covered picnic tables, RV campground hookups, carports, and shade trees. Community volunteers contributed significant in-kind hours toward the project, including the local high school welding class, which helped build the picnic tables.
“Investment in the Carvers Arena and Recreation Area improves recreational access not only for the community of Carvers but also for surrounding rural communities in Nye County. This one-time grant was instrumental in funding shovel-ready recreation infrastructure projects across Nevada,” said Elisabeth Johnson, Deputy Administrator for the Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation. “We are grateful for our partnership with the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) Travel, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation program, which provided funding for this community project. One of NDOR’s objectives is to identify and pursue additional funding opportunities for recreation infrastructure across Nevada.”
Nye County Grant Administrator Stephanie Urga added, “With the grant funding received from the Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation, Nye County has made significant improvements to the Carvers Arena and Recreation Area, benefiting both residents and visitors by providing an upgraded venue for shooting events. NDOR has been an incredible partner on this project and has supported us throughout the process. We are grateful to have this source of funding for projects that benefit our rural communities.”
To celebrate the completion of the project, Nye County will host a grand opening of the Carvers Arena and Recreation Area on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 1:30 PM, located at 6755 Rodeo Rd., Carvers, Nevada.
