Arthur Krupicz Appointed State Historic Preservation Officer for Nevada
The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR), together with the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), is proud to announce Arthur Krupicz has been appointed by Director James Settelmeyer to serve as State Historic Preservation Officer, effective May 19, 2025.
Mr. Krupicz succeeds Rebecca Palmer, whose 30 years of dedicated service and efforts have played a vital role in preserving the rich cultural and historical heritage of our state for future generations.
NDCNR also extends its sincere gratitude to Robin Reed, who has served as Interim Administrator since last Fall. Her leadership, dedication, and hard work ensured continuity and progress during the transition. With Mr. Krupicz’s appointment, Reed will now resume her position as Deputy Administrator.
As Administrator, Mr. Krupicz will lead SHPO’s efforts to identify, preserve, and promote Nevada’s historic and archaeological resources. His responsibilities will include oversight of the state’s compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act, support for local preservation programs and Certified Local Governments, administration of federal and state grant programs, and collaborative engagement with Nevada’s 21 federally recognized tribes, local governments, and public land management agencies.
Mr. Krupicz brings over three decades of experience in historic preservation, archaeology, and public service. He most recently served as the Historic Preservation Specialist for the Nevada Division of State Parks, where he led preservation and compliance efforts across the state’s extensive parks system. His earlier roles include serving as a Review and Compliance Archaeologist with SHPO, a cultural resource analyst, and the founding director of New Mexico’s statewide site stewardship program.
Mr. Krupicz’s career includes federal grant portfolios, development of training programs, authorship of dozens of technical reports and historic resource assessments, and instruction in anthropology and cultural resource management at multiple Nevada colleges. He holds a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Maryland.
“Mr. Krupicz’s appointment is an exciting step forward for the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office,” said NDCNR Director James Settelmeyer. “His decades of experience, collaborative leadership style, and deep respect for Nevada’s cultural legacy make him well-qualified to guide SHPO into its next chapter of service and stewardship.”
