Celebrating Nevada's Rich Heritage: May Designated as Historic Preservation and Archaeological Awareness Month

CARSON CITY, NV – Since the early 1980s, May has held special significance in Nevada as a month dedicated to honoring and celebrating the state's rich history through historic preservation and archaeology.

Nevada's history is as diverse as its landscape, spanning from the majestic peaks of the Sierra Nevada to the vast expanse of the Great Basin. Throughout the state, historic sites, landmarks, and archaeological treasures tell the story of the people and events that have shaped Nevada's past.

During Historic Preservation and Archaeological Awareness Month, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to explore and appreciate the wealth of historical resources that Nevada has to offer. From guided tours of historic sites, to interactive exhibits showcasing archaeological discoveries, there are countless opportunities to engage with the state's history and learn more about its cultural heritage.
