Division of Forestry offering grants to protect and restore urban and rural ecosystems
Carson City, Nev. – With funding from the USDA Forest Service, the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) is currently soliciting pre-proposals for two competitive grant programs, Landscape Scale Restoration (LSR) and State Fire Assistance (SFA).
Nevada’s urban and rural ecosystems are continuously threatened by invasions of non-native species, insects, diseases, development disturbances, unsustainable management and destructive natural events such as floods and wildfires. The LSA grants enable cooperators to identify and apply for funding to address these, and other relevant natural resource management and conservation issues. Funds may be used to implement restoration treatments that improve or restore urban/rural forests and rangelands, water resources, riparian areas, and wildlife habitat. Projects that mitigate extreme wildfire behavior, noxious weed infestations, and negative ecosystem impacts are also eligible.
NDF is also seeking SFA grant pre-proposals for the Western States Fire Managers (WSFM) and Hazardous Fuels-Community Protection programs. WSFM funds can be used to reduce hazardous wildfire fuel, create community wildfire protection plans, and perform community outreach and wildfire prevention in the wildland urban interface. The Hazardous Fuels-Community Protection (HF-CP) funding can be used to implement on-the-ground hazardous fuel reduction projects and restoration of fire adapted ecosystems that are located on private property adjacent to US Forest Service lands.
LSR, WSFM, and HF-CP funding is only available for projects on non-federal lands in Nevada.
LSR pre proposal due date is March 1, 2019.
SFA grants:
- HF-CP grant pre-proposals must be summited by February 15, 2019.
- WSFM pre-proposals must be summited by March 1, 2019.
Pre-proposals for all competitive grant programs must be submitted on the approved forms available on the Nevada Division of Forestry Web site at http://forestry.nv.gov/grants/. The site also contains a more detailed description of the criteria and instructions for eligibility and the scoring criteria that will be used to rank applications. Pre-proposals must be received by the Nevada Division of Forestry as prescribed in the grant guidance documents found at the website. Late, incomplete or faxed pre-proposals will not be accepted.
