Northern Nevada air quality expected to reach “very unhealthy” to “hazardous” levels this afternoon due to smoke from the Mosquito Fire
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) is forecasting air quality in Northern Nevada to reach “very unhealthy” to “hazardous” levels this afternoon due to wildfire smoke blowing in from the Mosquito Fire in Northern California. NDEP advises the public to monitor the air quality index (AQI) at airnow.gov. The AQI focuses on health impacts that individuals may experience within a few hours or days after breathing polluted air (see chart below):
NDEP and local officials will continue to closely monitor smoke impacts and air quality in Northern Nevada. You can also follow the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Twitter feed for more information (@NevDCNR). Click here for tips on protecting your family from wildfire smoke.
