The Diesel Emission Mitigation Fund opens second annual funding round to improve air quality
CARSON CITY, NV – On June 1, 2019, the Nevada Diesel Emission Mitigation Fund, managed by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP), will begin taking applications for the second round of annual funding. The Nevada Diesel Emission Mitigation Fund helps public and privately-owned fleets replace older medium- and heavy-duty diesel-powered vehicles (e.g., transit buses, school buses, freight trucks, etc.) with new vehicles that emit fewer harmful exhaust emissions, particularly nitrogen oxides. Applications are due no later than July 31, 2019. “Thanks to the projects awarded in 2018, Nevada will see a significant reduction in harmful exhaust emissions. The Nevada Diesel Emission Mitigation Fund continues to be an effective resource for fleets in Nevada working to improve air quality,” said Danilo Dragoni, Chief of the NDEP Bureau of Air Quality Planning. “The funding is instrumental in NDEP’s ongoing efforts to protect and enhance air quality throughout Nevada.”
The Nevada Diesel Emission Mitigation Fund is funded by the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Agreement for State Beneficiaries created by settlements between the Volkswagen Corporation, U.S. Department of Justice, and State of California regarding Volkswagen Corporation’s installation and use of defeat devices in diesel-powered vehicles.
